The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal project includes the new Stanford Hospital and an expansion to the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Spire became involved with these projects by providing Project Controls services during the construction phase. We assisted one of the project contractors with the development of a baseline schedule, schedule updates, schedule review, cost assessments and analysis, productivity monitoring, and projections. Spire’s deliverables provided project executives with visibility into project performance and risks that support informed decision-making to help the project finish on time and under budget.
The entire Stanford renewal project is estimated to cost $5 billion, with $2 billion allocated for the new Stanford Hospital, and $1.1 billion for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital expansion. The new Stanford Hospital is seven stories, 824,000 SF, includes 368 patient rooms, and meets all current earthquake standards. The patient rooms provide oversized windows to afford views of the surrounding foothills. There is also a rooftop helipad, 17 operating rooms, five gardens, walking trails, and a meditation room. In addition to the new hospital accommodating advances in medical technology, there is a new Level I trauma center with 58 treatment bays that are three times larger than the previous facilities.
